Arrive in Auckland, the largest urban city in New Zealand with the largest population of Polynesian people in the world. Check in to our hotel, located in the heart of Auckland. MONDAY, MAY 7
Following a full buffet breakfast at the hotel, we will travel by motor coach through the lush countryside to one of New Zealand’s most famous attractions—the Waitomo Glow Worm Caves. Our experienced tour guide will share highly informative insights throughout the underground scenery including the history and the spectacular Glowworm Grotto. We will explore by boat on the Waitomo River. You will be in awe experiencing this galaxy of tiny living lights! Lunch will be on your own before our motor coach journey takes us to Hobbiton for a tour of The Lord of the Rings movie set. There we will take in the beauty of the picturesque 1,250 acre sheep farm with spectacular views. We will spend the evening in Rotorua. Our hotel for the next two nights is once again located in a central location with many cafes and restaurants within walking distance and a view of picturesque Lake Rotorua. (B)
TUESDAY, MAY 8
Following a full buffet breakfast at the hotel, we will begin our tour of Rotorua including the Government Gardens. Rotorua is a city with immense history, tradition and culture including a hydrothermal experience of a lifetime. Other highlights on today’s tour of the city include a large working sheep and cattle farm where we will witness a sheep shearing demonstration by a top shearer. We will also visit the Rainbow Springs Nature Park and Kiwi Encounter, with free time in the afternoon. There will be an evening cultural experience at Te Puia and a guided tour of the Thermal Reserve with a traditional style Hangi (food cooked authentically under the ground) for dinner and Maori dance entertainment. WEDNESDAY, MAY 9
We’ll enjoy another buffet breakfast at our hotel in Rotorua before the transfer to the Rotorua Airport. We will then fly to Nelson. Upon landing, a private motor coach and local guide will meet us and we will begin a sightseeing tour of the central city and Tahunanui Beach before checking in to the hotel. This centrally-located hotel captures a blend of the local charm and cosmopolitan sophistication. Nelson offers creative culture and spectacular natural beauty. Dinner will be enjoyed at the hotel. THURSDAY, MAY 10
Breakfast is included at the hotel this morning. On this day, there are optional tours offered for a guided wine tour or a tour of Wilson’s Abel Tasman complete with kayaks, a walk on the beach, picnic lunch and seal viewings. The day is otherwise yours to enjoy the day! So much to do in Nelson to enjoy New Zealand’s renowned sunniest spot. (B)
FRIDAY, MAY 11
This morning after breakfast at the hotel, we return to Nelson Airport and fly in to Queenstown. Our driver and local guide will meet us in a motor coach. We will then explore some of central Otago’s most picturesque settings including the historic gold mining town of Arrowtown. There will be time to shop in the art studios, galleries and charming antique and gift shops. Next we will travel via the Kawarau Bridge, the site of the original AJ Hackett’s bungy-jumping operation before checking in to our hotel for the next three nights. Queenstown is pure escapism for adventurers and wine enthusiasts alike. Our hotel overlooks stunning Lake Wakatipu with its majestic mountain backdrop. Only a five-minute walk from central Queenstown and exclusively accessed by scenic gondola, dinner is included at the Stratosfare Restaurant. The dining experience is out of this world with the best views of the region in a spectacular 220 degree panorama. Sit back and enjoy the view and a sumptuous dinner, serving up a buffet of legendary proportions! (B, D)
SATURDAY, MAY 12
Following an early breakfast at the hotel, we will travel by a private motor coach with a local guide to Milford Sound for the day. Luxuriant rain forest clings to sheer rock walls washed with waterfalls. In the foreground stands Mitre Peak, a majestic presence dominating the skyline. It is exceptional scenery, ranging from broad grassy flats, dense rainforest and towering mountains through to glacial lakes and alpine herb fields. In Milford Sound our group will board our vessel to enjoy a two hour scenic nature cruise with a deluxe picnic lunch. After this fantastic, scenic day, the evening will be yours to enjoy. Weather permitting, there may be an optional scenic flight back to Queenstown. Dinner is served at the hotel. (B, L, D)
SUNDAY, MAY 13
Breakfast is at leisure in the hotel restaurant this day. The rest of the day and evening is yours to relax in Queenstown or opt for optional tours such as a Lord of the Rings movie tour, bungee jumping off Kawarau Gorge Suspension Bridge or a walk in the beautiful Queenstown Gardens. (B)
