Daily Itinerary

February 13 - Depart USA for Delhi

February 14 - Arrive in Delhi

We will be met by our local guide and transferred by private coach to our hotel, our home for the next two nights. India's capital, Delhi, blends the old with the new providing an interesting combination.

February 15 - Old & New Delhi

Depart for a full-day sightseeing tour of Old & New Delhi, visiting the Red Fort by rickshaw. Known because of the red stone with which it is built, it is one of the most magnificent palaces in the world, which is also where it was announced to the nation that India was free from colonial rule. Continue on to Humayun's Tomb, which is among the first examples of Mughal architecture, with its high arches and a double dome. Next visit the Raj Ghat where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated.

This afternoon depart for New Delhi sightseeing, visiting Qutub Minar, made of red sandstone rising to the height of 72.5 meters, which is an architectural marvel of the 13th century. View the India Gate, a majestic high arch, built as a war memorial to the Indian soldiers killed in the World War II. Drive past the magnificent Presidential palace and Government buildings. B,L,D

February 16 - Delhi to Agra

After breakfast drive to Agra, beautifully situated on the banks of River Yamuna. It achieved promience as the capital of the Mughal Empire from the year 1526 to 1628. It remains a major tourist destination with its many splendid Mughal-era monuments, most notably the Taj Mahal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. What makes this marble monument so endearing is its haunting tale of love and loss. The rest of the day is at leisure. B,D

February 17 - Agra to Ranthambore

We begin our day with a sunrise visit to the Taj Mahal. With its incredible lacy white grandeur, the Taj Mahal is perhaps the most perfect architectural monument in the world. Return to your hotel for breakfast.

Depart by motorcoach to Bharatpur, enroute visiting Fatehpur Sikri, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Fatehpur Sikri was built predominantly in red sandstone by the Mughal Emperor, Akbar. He had planned this city as his capital, but shortage of water compelled him to abandon the city. Continue to Bharatpur to board the Kota Jan Shatabdi Express to travel by rail to Ranthambore, our home for the next two nights. B,D

February 18 - Ranthambore

Ranthambore National Park is a fascinating blend of history and nature. Its deep gorges serve as hide-outs for leopards, tigers, sloth bear, spotted deer, sambar, red jungle fowl and eagle. We will experience an early morning drive into the dense jungle of Ranthambore in a jeep, for tiger tracking and bird watching. The jungle visits last about three hours. Return to the lodge for lunch, and later drive into the jungle for another wildlife safari. B,L,D

February 19 - Ranthambore-Jaipur

Enjoy a morning wildlife animal safari into the jungle in an open jeep. After lunch motorcoach to Jaipur. Jaipur, known as the "Pink City", due to the color of the stone used in its buildings. We will spend two nights in this fascinating city. B,L,D

February 20 - Jaipur

This morning visit the Amber Fort with its honey-colored fortress palace. Climb up to the fort on an elephant ride. The exterior of the fort opens onto striking views of the nearby gorge and India's answer to China's Great Wall. This afternoon we will depart on a city tour visiting the City Palace & Museum, stopping by the "Hawa Mahal", or the Palace of Winds. Situated in the heart of the Old City, it occupies about one-seventh of the old city area. The palace is a blend of Rajput and Mughal architecture, it houses a seven-storied Chandra Mahal in the center, which affords a fine view of the gardens and the city. Proceed to The Jantar Mantar Observatory. Built in the 18th century by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the huge masonary instruments were used to study

the movement of constellations and stars in the sky. The enormous sundial still provides accurate time. This evening we will experience a sari and turban– tying lesson and a home-hosted dinner with an Indian family. B,L,D

February 21 - Jaipur-Udaipur

This morning enjoy a walking tour through a local market, known for its arts and crafts including jewelry, enamel work, hand-painted fabrics, stone sculptures, and famous blue pottery. Later transfer to the airport and catch our flight to Udaipur. The lake city of Udaipur is a cool oasis in the heart of the colorful state of Rajasthan. Udaipur is famous for its Lake Palace, a magnificent palace now converted into a luxury hotel in the middle of beautiful Pichola Lake. Udaipur is well-known for its local crafts, particularly paintings in the Rajput Mughal style. Upon arrival into Udaipur we will be transferred to our hotel for our two-night stay. Tonight we are treated to dinner and a performance of Rajasthani folk dances at a local restaurant. B,D

Next we will visit Sahelion Ki Bari or 'Garden of the Maidens'. This evening relax on a boat ride on Lake Pichola, the famous lake almost synonymous with Udaipur. The beauty of the lake is enhanced by the surrounding hills, palaces, temples, bathing ghats and embankments. The Jag Niwas and Jag Mandir, the two island palaces, look like pearls over the lake.

This evening we will dine at the stunning Leela Lake Palace Kempinski Udaipur, with its breathtaking view of the Aravali Mountains, stands majestically on the banks of Lake Pichola, evoking the grandeur and opulence of a bygone era. B,D

February 23 - Udaipur-Varanasi

This morning we will fly to India's Holiest City, Varanasi, also known as Benares or Kashi, the "City of Light" or the "Eternal City", and is one of the most important pilgrimage sites in India for the Hindus. Our next two nights will be spent in Varanasi, which has been a center of learning and civilization for years. This evening enjoy the spectacular site of Aarti on the Ganges, which will be reached by a rickshaw ride. B,D

February 24 - Varanasi

Start the day with an early morning boat ride on the sacred River Ganges, to see the cremation Ghats and witness the living traditions of one of the world's oldest religions. At sunrise the sight unfolds before us as thousands of faithful come daily to the banks to bathe and pray, while in the background temples and palaces rise in tiers from the water's edge. Proceed back to the hotel for breakfast.

This afternoon we will take an excursion to Sarnath. The Buddha preached his first sermon to five disciples at the Deer Park here, enshrining the principals of his teaching into laws. The Dhamek Stupa marks the location of a once resplendent monastery. A large complex of ruined monasteries covers the area north of the stupas, dating to the Kushan and Gupta period. The first monk communities probably settled here in the 3rd century BC. Near the Dhamek Stupa is a new monastery built by the Buddhist Mahabodhi Society. A Japanese artist depicts the major events of Buddha’s life here in wall paintings. B,D
